LeVirya’s highly anticipated album “Late Night Espresso” is, in LeVirya’s words “an ode to lo-fi hip hop, cassette tape culture and coffee.” However, to claim this release is merely coffee themed would be to ignore the nuanced complexities throughout the album. With a known talent in capturing subtle emotions, LeVirya has, in a way, produced an album which functions as a “coffee break diary”. Each song offers a glimpse of the Dutch producer’s mindset and mood that day, coffee in hand.
What is immediately noticeable when you listen to Human Centerpiece’s debut album “Dormin” is the sheer amount of variety on the release. The texan producer has kept an open mind when it comes to genre, incorporating characteristics from a full spectrum of his music taste, rather than limiting it for continuity’s sake. However, despite this, “Dormin” is anything but lacking continuity. Human Centerpiece has kept it tightly woven together with attributes known only to him; a masterful control of dynamics and space, as well a hint of sweet, gloomy darkness.
Aviary Bridge Records’ fourth seasonal compilation album, “Summer” released on 31th August 2018, brings the series around full circle as we begin to enter Autumn once again. For the final seasonal challenge, Aviary Bridge Records once again gave their roster a theme and an image to base their music around. This time the challenge was to capture the essence of a summer evening, where the sociable nights are long and comfortably warm due to the lingering sunlight.
An album which captures the nostalgia and reflection that rolls in with the first signs of autumn. We challenged our current roster of artists to come up with a lofi hip hop track which captures an autumnal feeling based on the image used for the album artwork.
